Chris Benz Resort 2011 Collection
Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 10:19 AM
The New York-based designer walks us through his studio and his most recent fashion collection. See the video below.
Walking into Chris Benz's Midtown West studio is more than every girl's sartorial dream – it's the kind of place you can only hope your NYC apartment will look like someday. The young designer is a self-professed eBay fanatic – which is perhaps the best explanation for the printed throw pillows, eclectic collagings of abstract artwork and vintage framed prints, along with all the gorgeous Sascha Brastoff ceramics, which Benz used to serve up iced tea to guests at his Resort 2011 presentation last Thursday. But doling out beverages wasn't the only purpose the Brastoff beauties served – they also inspired much of Benz's collection, along with the California sculptor's costume designs for actress Carmen Miranda back in the Fifties.
While Benz thankfully didn't take Miranda's fruit cornucopia headgear to literal heart, I did love that he captured the actress' free spirit in the collection – which makes perfect sense for vacation-minded Resort. There were graphic prints with retro throwbacks and unique textures – including a lightweight tweed embroidered with cotton tulle and silk organza – that took center stage. Tweed for resort, you ask? Don't be so shocked; if anyone call pull it off, it's Benz. And being the sucker that I am for a resurfaced (and much improved) fashion trend of the past (clogs anyone?), I couldn't keep my hands off of the designer's Livia cropped blouse, which came in dreamy peach and ivory hues in 100 percent silk chiffon – divine.

How To Wear The Denim On Denim Trend In Real Life
Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 5:41 AM
We love editorial fashion ideas, but taking them to real-life can be a tricky move. Now heres some ideas below and a short clip from the trend 2010 denim on denim.
1.Limit the denim on denim. Sounds like an oxymoron, but you only need two pieces of denim for your look. A jacket and shorts is enough to demonstrate the trend without needing a denim shirt with it all.
2.Flash some skin. Opting for denim shorts or cropped pants rather than full length jeans will naturally keep your denim ensemble from overwhelming the eye.
3.Use other lively fabrics to compliment your denim look. Denim is usually a safe way to ground sparkly sequins or printed floral pieces. With that said, break up your denim look with the same patterned and flashy pieces.
4.Mix (but don't match) your denim tones. Contrast and balance a lighter, washed out denim with a dark black or navy denim. Instead of upping your fashion forward look, wearing a head-to-toe shade of denim will knock you down to the "Jennifer Lopez's Denim Jumpsuit" level.

A French Lovers Tryst
Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 4:41 AM
Ciao! The Juicy Couture guest designer is all about chic sensibility for her eponymous line.Erin Fetherston Resort 2011 is what I allways wanted. The style is so me french chic with a simple rocky twist. I just fell in love with the collection, I want all the peaces. What´s your favourit Resort collection ever?
Erin Fetherston may be guest designing now for Juicy Couture, but at her Resort 2011 collection for her eponymous label, there (thankfully) wasn't a swatch of velour in sight. She did, however, try her first hand at denim – showcased in a high-waisted fitted style – that would do well with girls in a Left Bank sort of mood.
"For Resort, I was inspired by the French film, L'Amant (The Lover)," Fetherston explained. "I wanted to capture an effortless, chic sensibility in an offering with lots of mix and matchability."
Take care :)
